LÉMERY (Nicolas, or Sieur d'ÉMERY). The New collection of secrets and rare and new curiosities of the most admirable effects of Nature. According to the copy of Paris, in Leide, chez Pierre van der Aa, 1685. 2 parts in one vol. in-12, green morocco, spine ribbed and decorated (Modern pastiche binding). I) (4) ff, 398 pp, (20) ff table, 7 engravings - II) title, pp. 441 to 648, (8) ff, one engraving. First illustrated edition. It includes an unsigned engraved title-frontispiece and 8 engravings of which the first one is signed A. Schoonebeck. This collection of secrets of all kinds concerns diseases, beauty, perfumes, fireworks, precious stones, painting, gardening, hunting... Volume I, chapters XIII to XV are devoted to cooking (34 recipes for cold cuts, desserts, cakes), sommellerie (25 recipes for flowers and fruits, jams) and wines. The oldest edition of this collection of "sieur d'Émery" was published in Paris, by Louis Vendôme, in 1674; the work was then reprinted several times in French in Paris and in Leiden, and translated into English.
