Both a pharmacist and a lawyer, Cadet de Gassicourt (1769-1821) published various scientific works, and followed Napoleon's Austrian campaign in 1809 as first pharmacist. He was the son of the famous pharmacist Louis-Claude Cadet de Gassicourt, and the nephew of the chemist Cadet-de-Vaux. Work on grape syrups and sugar was started around 1809 to replace sugar from the colonies, which France had been deprived of since the continental blockade. Cadet de Gassicourt's report is followed by the winning memoirs: those of J.-B. Charles Siret (Reims) and Poutet (Marseille), as well as those of G.-S. Serullas (pharmacist of the Grande Armée), and Dejardin and Fournier fils (Nîmes). Significant foxing. Slight rubbing.
