The mention of "second edition" is denied in the warning and refers to the chapters published in the journal L'Épicurien français. In the form of dialogues, the work gathers numerous anecdotes concerning meals in the world and at all times. It is illustrated with the first gastronomic map of France, drawn and engraved by Tourcaty, presenting, next to the names of cities, the culinary products that make its reputation: ham in Bayonne, cheese in Brie, poularde in Bourg-en-Bresse..., and locates the vineyards: barrels in Burgundy, in Bordeaux, stills near Cognac, etc. This production map is explained in a table on pp. 300 to 304. Cadet de Gassicourt (1769-1821) was both a pharmacist and a lawyer. He published various scientific works and followed Napoleon's Austrian campaign in 1809 as first pharmacist. He was the son of the famous pharmacist Louis-Claude Cadet de Gassicourt, and the nephew of the chemist Cadet-de-Vaux. A pleasant copy.
