Engraved title, 27 pp. 124 of 125 numbered plates (the last one folding). Extremely rare first edition of this amazing album of pastry architecture, intended for young practitioners. It is the first illustrated book of Carême, dedicated to M. Muller, one of the maître d'hôtel-contrôleurs of the tsar's house. It presents, through 125 plates engraved from the author's drawings, models of picturesque set-ups, inspired by Chinese, Gothic, Egyptian, classical, Italian architecture... pavilions, temples, ruins, waterfalls, fountains, houses, hermitages... It also contains a Treaty of the five orders of Vignole, to help in the understanding of proportions. Autograph signature of the author. Engraved portrait pasted on the false title.
