Third edition, illustrated with 2 frontispieces, 34 plates (burin engravings, steel engravings, lithographs, etchings, woodcuts) : portraits of Vernet, Janin, Carême, Brillat-Savarin, Berchoux, Grimod de La Reynière, Colnet, etc., allegories, furniture and objects..., and numerous vignettes in the text by Isabey, Johannot, Vernet, Pauquet, Daubigny... This copy contains the 2 frontispieces, and 27 of the 34 plates listed by Vicaire. It is enriched with 4 original drawings and 36 portraits and engravings, some from previous editions. It also contains 3 autograph letters signed : - from Brillat-Savarin, dated 17 fructidor, 2 pp. in-4, addressed to the minister of war: as a court judge, Brillat-Savarin asks in favor of the citizen Novel for the confirmation of his place of adjutant-major captain. - from Joseph Berchoux : dated 22 Oct 1821, 2 pp. in-8, addressed to the printer Antherme Boucher : about the loss of a package containing two new chapters for "Benjamin Quichotte" (The Six chapters of the history of the citizen Benjamin Quichotte de la Manche appeared that same year 1821). - from Colnet : 5 lines bill, dated 23 prairial year 12, authorizing Renouard to use one of his printed notices. Interesting enriched copy, coming from the libraries J. Renard and H. Destailleur. Missing pages i to xxxvi, and xlv to l of the "Observations", which have been interspersed by fragments in the work.
