In-8, half tan basane, smooth spine decorated, marbled edges (Binding of the time). viii and 216 pp. First edition of this treatise on the cultivation of cocoa, its commercial characteristics, its preparation and its properties. This new and quasi-scientific approach to cocoa defends the hygienic virtues of chocolate sold by the famous Debauve & Gallais company, founded in 1800 by the pharmacists Sulpice Debauve and his nephew Auguste Gallais. It is illustrated with a folding map of Central America (cut in two, not missing) and 2 plates, one of them folding. Two stamps on the title page and on the back. Handwritten ex-dono on the false title "Given by Mr. Baraton". Some foxing. Angular loss on the false title. Binding rubbed with small losses at the top cover. Vicaire, 382 - Bitting, 175.
