Very beautiful letter in which he evokes the creation of the newspaper L'Humanité. On April 18, 1904 the first issue of this newspaper was published.
"Monday evening (...) I don't have time to go to your place. I saw the other day, at Villa Said, that you were to return to Paris at the end of last week. Here are two requests that I submit to you.
1°: There is a meeting tomorrow at my house, at 4 o'clock, in view of the creation of the newspaper. It would be very important in all respects that you could come.
2°: The Minister of Public Instruction asks me to tell you that he would consider it a great honor for the Collège de France if you would accept to be a candidate for the chair of French literature. He is right. Thanks to you".
