It is a map of Le Tréport addressed to his friend Léon Fontaine, with personal annotations including some details that were to be of particular interest to Maupassant and his friends of "L'Union" "merde Normandie", (for Normandy sea), "bords de la mer", "bains des dames", "casinos, bains publics sans cabines"...
At the top of the page, a sentence in approximate Latin: "Oceano hoq et hiq (sic, for hoc et hic) vicissim !!!!" (the ocean alternately here and there?)
In front of the "mixed baths", Maupassant has represented his friend "Léon F." as well as "Louis F." and "Louis C." and a certain "Luc" doing the board.
