NAPOLEON III (1808-1873).

Autograph letter signed to "your brother Napoleon". Paris, Palais des Tuileries. February 10, 1858. 1 p. and a half in-4. Header with his crowned figure. On January 14, 1858, three bombs were thrown on the imperial procession which arrived at the Opera. In spite of the immense popularity of Napoleon III in the provinces, Paris, which suffered from the high cost of living, remained hostile to the Empire, the Republic remaining the ideal of more than half of the Parisians. "It is with pleasure that I received the congratulations of your Imperial Highness concerning the attack of January 14. The proofs of your sympathy during your stay with you would not allow me to doubt your feelings, but it gives me a new testimony of which I can only be very sincerely touched. The Empress joins her thanks to mine...".
