Description

PAGNOL Marcel (1895-1974).

Autograph manuscript signed entitled Judas, (s.l.n.d.). 30 pp. in-4, in-folio and typescript of the same text (s.l.n.d.). 9 pp. in-4. The manuscript entitled Judas is presented in the form of a collection of 30 sheets of different natures and dimensions (school notebook, correspondence paper). The sheets are numbered in pencil and are maintained between them by two staples. The text is written in black and blue ink. We are in the presence of an intermediate version of the preface of Judas, a play in 5 acts created on October 6, 1955 at the Théâtre de Paris. Indeed, some passages presented in this preface are more developed than the published version, the organization of the remarks is also slightly different. We can quote on page 13 of our manuscript, a portrait of the apostle John which does not appear in the publication. The passage on the price of nard perfume is also more detailed in the manuscript. Marcel Pagnol looks for equivalences between deniers and old francs, makes calculations to estimate the price of this so precious perfume (page 16 and 17 of the manuscript). On the contrary, the whole part dealing with staging and problems during performances is not included in this manuscript. This manuscript is accompanied by its cleanup.
