TOCQUEVILLE Alexis de (1805-1859).

6 autograph letters signed, Paris, Compiègne, Tocqueville and (s.l.) correspondence dated July 31, 1847 to September 9 [18]58 (s.d.). 11 pp. 1/2 in-8, one letter with address and postmarks, one on mourning paper. And NOEL-AGNES Nicolas (1794-1866) Autograph letter signed to Alexis de Tocqueville, Cherbourg, October 15, 1844. 3 pp. in-8. On October 8, 1850, Tocqueville warns his correspondent that he is leaving Paris for Italy on the advice of his doctor; on January 8, 1855, he apologizes "(...) I would like to be richer and to have less charges (.. to be able to take a very large number of tickets (...)" he evokes the wish to return to Cherbourg and announces that he has visited part of Germany; on November 2, 1856, he sends the Noël family "the expression of our deepest sympathy (...)" with regard to the misfortune which affects them; September 9 [18]58 to M. Noël, (n.d.) "Sunday morning" and (n.d.) "Wednesday morning", friendly correspondence; October 15, 1844, Nicolas Noël-Agnès writes this very interesting letter on the project of the Paris-Cherbourg railroad, he announces "As we agreed, I have formed a committee of inquiry to establish the importance of the traffic on our projected railroad (...." he explains at length his work of investigation and wishes "(...) to know your opinion on the direction which he recommends (...) it is necessary for us above all, the exact knowledge of the proposed routes (...)" and continues on other technical details.
