MEISSEN

Important group representing a couple of shepherds sitting on a flowered terrace, surrounded by garlands of flowers, two sheep lying at their feet, with polychrome decoration. The base is decorated with rocaille motifs in relief enhanced with gold. The motif is inspired by a composition by François Boucher, The Gallant Shepherd (engraving kept in the Louvre Museum, inv. 18806 LR/ Recto). Marked on the reverse. Model of J.-J. Kändler, 18th century, circa 1750. (Restorations to the left hand and to the shepherdess' staff, restorations to the head of a sheep, to some flowers and a chip to the hat). Length : 20 cm - Height : 16 cm A similar model is illustrated in Adams, Meissen portrait figures, 1987, p. 49.
