A LARGE MING STYLE SCULPTURE OF GUANYIN, 20th CENTURY

A LARGE MING STYLE SCULPTURE OF GUANYIN, 20th CENTURY China. Carved from wood as Guanyin seated in rajalilasana, wearing loose, voluminous robes, the right hand gently resting on the raised knee. The face with a serene expression, the eyebrows centered by an urna, the hair arranged in a high chignon and secured with an ornamental headdress. The body coated in layers of green, brown and red varnish. Provenance: From the collection of Godfried Wauters, acquired from a private collector in the Netherlands. Godfried Wauters has been active in the Belgian trade for over 40 years. He has built a substantial art collection including Chinese and Buddhist sculptures, significantly expanding on the collection already built by his late father Gustaaf Wauters (1905-1992). Condition: Extensive wear to paintwork, cracks, and chips. Dimensions: Height 102 cm
