Description

CUSTINE Astolphe de (1790-1857).

L.A.S. "A. de Custine, "Paris ce samedi" [17 February 1838], to STENDHAL, with autograph note by STENDHAL; 1 page small in-4. Nice letter from the Marquis de Custine to Stendhal, who annotated it. "I presented myself to you, Sir, but one never meets in Paris without an appointment. That is why I dare to hope that you will want to come and dine at my house on Thursday, February 22, with a few friends, who are also yours. The happiness of hearing you talk is too rare for me, and I will always look for opportunities to procure a pleasure that I flatter myself to appreciate for what it is worth"... STENDHAL noted at the top of the letter: "Answered Wednesday, February 21. Conference with Colomb on the strange conduct of Lamela" [Lamela refers to Ambroise Dupont, who is going to edit La Chartreuse de Parme]. Stendhal, Correspondance générale, t. VI, p. 117 (n° 2850).
