Description

BIBLE. Biblia sacra Vulgatæ editionis. Cologne : Jacobum Naulæum, 1679. - 6 volumes in-24, red morocco, gilt fillet in frame and gilt flower in the center and corners on the boards, smooth spine decorated, gilt border inside, gilt edges (18th century binding). Delaveau-Hillard, " Bibles imprimées du XVe au XVIIIe siècle ", n° 1068. small format edition of this bible in the sixto-clementine version, illustrated with 6 engraved titles, 5 of which are at the head of volumes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6, and one for the " Pentateuch " appearing in the first volume . This edition is very rare; it was certainly published in Holland under the fictitious address of Jacobum Naulæum in Cologne. The titles are copies of those of the Cologne and Paris edition of 1670. The title of the fifth volume, "Manassæ oratio," is dated 1678 and exists in two states, this one being the one with the exact title and the prayer of Manasseh on the reverse. A very fine copy in 18th century morocco. Some rubbing from use. Margins a little short, with some damage to some running titles and to 5 engraved titles. Wormholes on the spine and hinges as well as on a few leaves.
