ROLLIN (Charles) - CREVIER (Jean-Baptiste-Louis). Roman history since the foundation of Rome until the battle of Actium: that is to say until the end of the Republic. Paris : Veuve Estienne, 1740 (volume 1)-1741 (volume 2)-1739 (volume 3) ; Paris : Frères Estienne, 1753 (volume 4) ; Paris : Veuve Estienne et fils, 1744 (volume 5)-1746 (volume 6)-1747 (volume 7)-1748 (volume 8) ; Paris : Veuve Estienne & fils, Jean Desaint, 1750-1754 (volumes 9 to 14) - 1748 (volumes 15 and 16). - 16 volumes in-12, brown calf, smooth spine decorated, speckled edges (period bindings). New edition of this famous work by Charles Rollin and continued by Jean-Baptiste-Louis Crevier who composed the last 8 volumes. The illustration consists of 11 folding maps, a plan, a portrait of Rollin (volume 8) and a plate. Copy of which the volumes were printed at different dates, which is common for this work. The first 3 volumes are bound differently and are smaller than the other 13 which are uniformly bound. Missing at some headpieces, rubbing from use, some corners dulled. Small cracks to some hinges. Tear with missing and damaged text on leaves A11 and A12 of the first volume, tears on some other leaves in the same volume with slight damage to a note (p. 92). Leaves O5 to O8 unbound in volume 6. Some light spotting but not serious.
