New French edition of this famous work by the Zurich theologian and poet Johann Caspar Lavater (1740-1801): "corrected and arranged in a more methodical order; preceded by a historical note on the Author; increased by an Exposition of the researches or opinions of La Chambre, Porta, Camper, Gall, on physiognomy; by an anatomical and physiological History of the face, etc.; by M. Moreau (de la Sarthe)" (title). Richly illustrated with 602 copper engravings including 9 title vignettes, 74 compositions in the text and 519 plates including 3 in two colors (volume 4) and 74 in bistre (volume 9).
