MASSÉNA (Victor). Studies on the art of woodcutting in Venice. The Missals printed in Venice from 1481 to 1600. Description, illustration, bibliography. Paris: J. Rothshild, 1894-1896. - 5 issues in one volume in-folio, black half-chagrin with corners, gilt filets, smooth spine decorated, gilt head, covers preserved (Hans Asper). First edition at 300 copies, of this ambitious bibliographical study on the Venetian missals, published in five issues from 1894 to 1896. It includes numerous reproductions in the text and on full page, as well as 5 plates. Precious copy, one of 290 on tinted paper, not put in commerce and specially printed for Princess Mathilde (1820-1904). It includes two justifications, one printed, the other partly autographed: "Exemplaire non destiné à la Vente // Imprimé pour être offert // à "Son Altesse Impériale la Princesse Mathilde // Hommage très respectueux // Duc de Rivoli". " On y trouve également toutes les couvertures de livraison ainsi que la couverture générale . Beautiful period binding by Hans Asper. Scattered foxing, more important on pages 70-71.
