ORLÉANS (Gaston d'). Autograph letter signed "Gaston" to his chancellor Léon Bouthillier. Blois, March 22, 1635. One p. in-4, small marginal snags with damage to one letter. "The count of Chiverny having asked me to employ myself before the king my lord to make him obtain the same survival of the lieutenancy which he has in the government of Orleans, Vandosmois, country blaisois and chartrain, in favour of his son, which had been granted to his aisne who died in Italy being there in the service of His Ma[jes]te, I am sending you the letters I wrote to him and to my cousin Monsieur le cardinal duc de Richelieu on this subject, and I beg you to favor this affair in all that you can, you know the reasons I have for liking it and for wishing it to succeed to the satisfaction of the Count de Cheverny. And I know that it is enough for me to tell you how pleasant it will be for me to meet you, to invite you to do everything that depends on you, and to give me a very special proof of our affection, Henri Hurault de Cheverny, son of the chancellor of France, had seven children, including three sons, Marc-Antoine, who died in 1625, Henri, who died in 1635, and Philippe.
