Double-sided silver watch with full calendar function, astrological signs of the planets and phases of the moon Smooth case on silver hinge, open on double-sided glass, warranty stamp on the pendant. Front dial, white enamel with stylized Arabic numerals, gilt metal "serpentine" hands, central second hand, track hand for the calendar function with indications of the months and dates of the astrological signs, track minute track in the center, signed "Duval Fecit". Back dial, white enamel, 31-day date indication on the circumference, astrological signs of the planets symbolized around the sun and the moon (Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn), opening for the phases and ages of the moon, bears the words "believes" and "decreases", signed "Duval Fecit". Movement with key winding, cylinder escapement, spiral balance, notched barrel, signed "Duval Rouen" on the caseband. Diameter 47.5 mm Gross weight 95.9 gr Duval, listed in Le Dictionnaire des Horlogers Français, Tardy, p. 213, was born in Rouen. Very few examples of his work are known, though some were sold in recent years at the Hôtel Drouot: Mr De Maigret, sales of 22 March and 7 June 2017, two similar clocks with calendar and phases of the moon or celestial globe. The Tardy also mentions a watch similar to this one: "Duval Rouen. On a watch marking the 12 months of the year, the equation of 10 in 10 days, the seconds in the center, on the back the dates and phases of the moon: In Rouen 1773".
