Description

LÊ PHO (1907-2001) Young girls fishing. Around 1956. Painting and Indian ink on silk mounted on cardboard signed lower left. Framed. Typed label of the Romanet Gallery on the back. Romanet Gallery 18 avenue Matignon, Paris. Le Phô n° 256-90. 5P (format 5 landscapes). Number and title of the work taken back to the colored pencil. Acquired directly at the Gallery. In the family by descent. Dimensions: 35x24 cm. This portrait of young girls in bloom is very emblematic of the artist's artistic revival at this period. The very impressionist touch - the cherry blossoms that outline the silhouettes are revealed by impasto material - the palette obviously reveals the great influence of Claude Monet or Pierre Bonnard as well as the unceasingly renewed quest of Le Pho for new pictorial attempts. The time of this scene of silent life is suspended. The harmony is that of an earthly Eden. The work will appear in the catalog raisonné currently being prepared by Mr. Alain Le Kim, the artist's successor.
