ANONIEM / ANONYME 2/2 XVII ZUIDELJKE NEDERLANDEN/ PAYS-BAS MÉRIDIONAUX
Still life with fruit, Chinese porcelain, saucer and Rhenish wine goblet. Ca. 1670. Canvas. Flaking along lower edge. This painting belongs to a group of as-yet-anonymous works brought together by Fred Meijer. The artist is most likely Flemish and was active during the late 17th century. Characteristic elements are the "hairy" tablecloth, the clustering of fruit and the somewhat naive execution with dotted highlights. A very similar painting - apocryphally attributed to Abraham de Lust - is housed at the collection of the Hermitage (inv. ГЭ-4915) in St. Petersburg (cf. RKDimages nr. 288839). Another work dated 1671 and monogrammed JPG was sold at Christie's, 2005-11-16, lot 87 as cicle of 'J. van Son' (cf. RKDimages nr. 227182). 90 x 124 cm (103.5 x 139 cm)
