Rare portico clock in crystal and gilt bronze with rich decoration. Capital and base in cut crystal with round ribs and notched pilasters; the capital adorned with two ormolu cornices, one with metopes, frieze of palmettes and frieze of oves, the second with heart-shaped stripes; the base on ormolu base chiseled with a frieze of water leaves; four notched ormolu coil feet. The movement is framed by four cut crystal columns with twisted and notched ribs; Corinthian capitals in chased and gilded bronze and bases chased with an antique crown. The chased and gilt bronze dial with Roman numerals on a guilloche background is bordered by a frieze of heart-shaped stripes and a circle of acanthus leaves; bronze and cut crystal balance wheel with a radiating motif. Restoration period. Height 54 cm, width 25 cm, depth 17 cm. (accident to the globe) (Glass protection globe and key. The Montcenis crystal factory followed the Sèvres crystal factory, which was created in 1783 and transferred near Le Creusot in 1787. In spite of a high quality production, the factory was bought in 1832 by Baccarat and Saint-Louis, who definitively shut down the furnaces in order to reduce competition. The creation of the Baccarat crystal factory in 1816 was the result of the transfer of part of the production of the Vonèche crystal factory (Belgium), the most important factory of the French Empire, whose trade was affected by the establishment of a border between France and Belgium in 1814. The Vonèche and Baccarat crystal factories supplied the crystals to the great brands of the Palais Royal, such as L'Escalier de Cristal, specialized in the creation of prestigious objects in crystal and bronze.
