PTAH SOKAR OSIRIS Wood H. 65 cm Egypt, Ptolemaic period, 332-30 B.C. Provenance Former French private collection, late 1970s (according to the fixation) The mummy-like figure is composed of two parts and once contained a papyrus scroll, perhaps the Book of the Dead or some other text from the afterlife. The statuette with the long wooden tenon is mounted in its ancient rectangular base, in front of the falcon-like god Sokar as guardian of the dead. The human head of the figure wears a tripartite wig and a false beard. The face is finely modeled. On the head, a hole where the separately elaborated feather crown has been inserted. The white color remains, especially on the base. A rare type of Ptah-Sokar-Osiris statuette in two parts. An Egyptian wooden statuette of Ptah-Sokar-Osiris, Ptolemaic period, 332-30 B.C.
