Nicolas SANSON D'ABBEVILLE. Atlas . 75 maps. Paris, Mariette, Tavernier, 1637-1659. In-folio, about 58 x 43,5 cm, contemporary calf very damaged. Factitious collection of 75 maps drawn mainly by Sanson d'Abbeville (66), Géographe Ordinaire du Roy or by his son Sanson le fils (4), Tavernier (2), Magnin (1) and 2 unsigned. Some are signed by the engravers Peyrounin, Cordier or Somer. The maps all have an engraved cartouche and the outlines were colored at the time. They concern in their great majority Europe and are divided into 3 maps (terrestrial, hydrographic and the old world), the general maps of Asia (2), Africa (2), Europe (2) and America (2), the particular countries of Europe (63) and a map of the Promised Land. A handwritten table of plates mentions 76 maps, one of which is missing here, Les Suisses et leurs alliés. Binding very damaged, copy largely unbound with several splits at the folds, browning and marginal losses to some of them. The whole remains very correct Expert: Emmanuel Lhermitte
